Events Made Easy › Forums › Generic › EME + WP 5.0: Fatal Error
Hello,
First I’d like to thank You very much for this useful plugin. But yesterday I ran into an error:
After upgrading to WP 5.0 I experience the following error:
Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /var/www/web641/html/cms/wp-content/plugins/events-made-easy/eme_events.php on line 1405
This error persists even after deleting and reinstalling the plugin from scratch, also after deleting the eme tables in the database the plugin cannot be activated.
I already tried to deactivate all other plugins – no success.
Yours,
Konrad
This means you have a php version older than 5.6 (probably 5.2 or 5.3, versions that are out of support for several years already). EME requires at least 5.6
Hello Franky, thanks for the diagnosis. I indeed have PHP 5.5. I’ll upgrade my provider package and give you notice when it works again!
I migrated the site to the new hosting package. Now it works! Thank You. From what I saw in the forum, I’m not the only fool who ran into this issue. So glad 😀
Bye,
Konrad
Indeed, but I clearly mark the PHP version requirement on the plugin page @wordpress.
Unfortunately wordpress provides no means to give people a warning before downloading a plugin unsupported by their php version.
However: the current 2.0.72 no longer has this coding issue, I worked around it (although other parts of EME still have a requirement for newer php versions, like some payment gateways).
