    Hi Franky,

In this thread https://www.e-dynamics.be/wordpress/forums/topic/conditionals-eme_if-attributes-eq-and-value-do-not-work-for-numbers/ you helped me understand why you don’t automatically link EME Persons and WP Users, which means my admins have to approve members manually. This is not a desirable state of affairs at all, but I accept it for now.

However, users need feedback on when their membership has been activated, which means I want my website to automatically send them an email when their EME Person entry and their newly registered WP User entry become linked in the EME Person page.

How can I add a hook somewhere that does this? I suppose I would need to create a new email template for this as well…?

A mail gets send automatically when you “accept a payment” for a member, which is normally the only moment a membership gets activated.
Also linking the person and the wp id is not related to memberships, and there’s no notion of “activating” a person (only a member).

This is not true at all – in order to utilize the conditionals which depend on a member being logged in, users must have their Person linked to their WP User and then log into the site and take actions to take advantage of their new memberships. But if they log in before the admin has a chance to link those two entries, they will not be able to do any members-only actions, nor will there be any way for them to know why (unless you notify them directly).

Example: user comes to site and sees that there is a discount on multiple events for members only. He buys a membership, creates a WP User account, then logs in and tries to go buy tickets for multiple events. It won’t work, because the admin hasn’t had a chance to link the user’s Person with his WP User.

This is why the lack of automatic integration with WP’s User system is a problem for EME Membership UX, and why I want to send out an automatic email that indicates the person’s membership is usable on the website as soon as the entries are linked.

It’s bad enough that I have to make new members wait to buy tickets after buying membership (and that will likely affect event sales negatively, by requiring users to come back and make additional purchases at a later time) – I have literally placed an apology in the front end for making users wait. But I don’t also want to have to make event admins send an email by hand every single time a user buys a membership on top of that.

and there’s no notion of “activating” a person (only a member).

You’ll notice I referred to “linking” as the action I wanted to notify the user on. The linking to a WP User is done on the Person edit page.

Wait …what … “It’s bad enough that I have to make new members wait” ??? Seriously? You’re getting a full-fledged event system, with payment gateway integration, memberships, email listing, fully gdpr compliant and all that for free.
I understand not everything is ok for everybody, so feel free to pay for extra features.

    Hi Franky!

Please don’t interpret my email as a complaint about your plugin! I was just taking exception to your statement it’s not necessary to send an alert to users. And by “bad enough” I was speaking strictly to the quality of UX on my website, not EME.

I will be in touch privately about adding this feature to EME for our site.

Then what is “UX”? Because that I don’t know …

It’s short for “user experience”, i.e. the combination of UI (user interface) and interaction basically.
