This is not so much a feature or function question but more of a community one. I am searching a way to (automatically) share a new EME event on Facebook, Xing, Instagramm, LinkedIn etc. I looked through the search results for plugins but couldn’t find anything that seems to handle custom types on the one hand and more than facebook and twitter on the other hand.

Any ideas how to do this task? Any experiences or suggestions?

I used to maintain a plugin that creates a fb event, but I stopped because fb kept changing their api and requirements (together with pooly documentation). However, any social sharing plugin should work (for example “AddToAny Share Buttons”).

I am not sure. AddToAny Share Buttons looks like these plugins that allow visitors to share infos from your page on their SM channels. But what I am looking for is the possibility to post an event or at least the main parts of it on the SM channels of the event author the moment it is created/published on WP.

I found Blog2Social that looks promisingly but doesn’t seem to work with EME. They write

In general, Blog2Social is compatible with plugins that follow the WordPress guidelines.

Is there anything you can do about it?

I’m guessing they mean if you use posts (custom post types). EME does not, and I can’t dedicate my time to rewrite all the code for that. So that will not happen.

    Understood, okay.

It would be another thing if they provided an API of some sort. EME fully follows wordpress guidelines btw but like it is stated in the doc: “events are not posts”. I tried to start on that once, but it would require such a huge amount of work with no return on investment at all for me. And keeping in mind that I keep the plugin totally free, I just can’t get myself to begin working on it. If any other dev guy would step up for that part: great 🙂

What do you mean by that? Is there something I can ask or look for that helps you?

If they had an API, you could call that when creating an event (via the EME hooks). But it is always a pain in the ass in keeping social media stuff in sync with own calendar things (and if you want to post to different accounts on FB itself – depending on the author – it is even more complicated).

    They wrote:

We have added your compatibility request to our development list for future developments.
However, this is a very unique request. We will let you know when this feature or an appropriate workaround is available in a future update.

So nothing for now and still unclear if it will happen one day, but at least something better than a general denial.
