Where EME is used in worldwide applications, or even applications spanning two or more timezones, it would be better to base calendar current-date-shading on each client’s local computer date (obtained via JavaScript) than on either the server or website date, so indicated dates are always local client dates.

I understand your point of view, but will not happen any time soon. This will need major redesigning, since for now everything is stored using the WP timezone (without TZ indication in fact) …

I am not suggesting that anything related to dates or times change except the current date indication in calendars.

All event dates and times should be local to event venues. Someone in Brussels who is interested in attending an event in Chicago will want to know the date and time of the event in Chicago time, because that will be the timezone in use when they arrive. However, if they look at an EME calendar while in Brussels they will expect to see their current date shaded instead of the current WordPress date, which might be different.

The change I am suggesting is very simple. It would only make calendar current date background shading consistent with website visitor local dates. Nothing else would change.

Hmmm … let me think about this … I see what you mean, so I need to think about possible drawbacks …
