Error thrown when scanning QR

Hi Franky,

I’m currently testing the scanning of QR codes for our event. I’m using an Android phone where I’m logged in as admin. The event has multiprice tickets.
When I scan the QR code I get an error:
Error thrown
Call to undefined function current_user_can()

Everything worked fine on another site I set up, but on this site I get this error.

Did you try first by disabling all other plugins and trying again? And what if you use a default theme?

Good point, since it’s a live site I don’t want to fiddle too much, so I made a clone.
Turns out there was a conflict with Smart Slider 3 plugin. That’s not essential so I removed it.

But still no luck though: the scan now takes me to the site allright, but all I get is a blank page (just the header and page title show up), both in my custom theme and in default themes.
Also the footer doesn’t show up, the page gets truncated after the content part (while the default event page works fine on all other instances).

So still at a loss…

That’s better already. That means some php error occured. You should check your webserver php error logfile for more info on this. I’ll also try it out this evening.
Can you share what the conflict with Smart Slider 3 was? Then I might be able to resolve that in a future version.

Edit: also, which version of EME are you using? I remember something being wrong some versions ago with the QR code scanning, but that should be ok now.
Edit 2: after a small test, the attendance qr check seems to work fine.

Thanks once again for the quick response. I activated WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_LOG in wp-config (I guess that’s what you mean by php error logfile) but that yields nothing. No error messages whatsoever.

All I know about the Slider conflict is what I said in my first question above. I removed it as soon as I figured out this was the culprit, without further investigations.

Mmm, there appears to be something more serious: I’m running EME 2.1.38 so I tried upgrading to 2.1.48, and immediately my server threw a 500 server error!
Strangely, my dashboard keeps working fine, but the site becomes unreachable.
After restoring 2.1.38 (and waiting some minutes) the site works fine again…

The exact same thing happened earlier today on the live site, so it seems there’s a more fundamental problem. May be unrelated to the above. Perhaps the logfile below can clarify something.

First: that version probably has the bug concerning qrcode scanning.
Second: sitename.url/… seems to redirect to itself or so, resulting in the recursion issue. You might want to try and disable your permalink settings and then try again, see if that helps. I have no idea why that would be happening during newer versions (nothing I changed comes to mind for that and all my sites are running fine here). Maybe a conflict between EME permalink SEO settings and another page?

Thank you so much, once again you have pointed me in the right direction!
The initial slider conflict sent me astray, but it turns out to be a combination of SEO misconfiguration and a QR-impaired EME-version.

So I changed the changed the permalink slug for events and resaved permalinks.
After that I could upgrade to the latest EME version without a problem. QR scanning now works exactly as planned. Hurray!

Btw: EME warns you about SEO conflicts in its settings page.
I also tested the slider plugin you mentioned and it generates no conflict with EME.
