Is there a setting somewhere to display a full event description (not just an excerpt) in the RSS Feed and remove the “Read More” tag as well?
Thanks!
See the “RSS description format” in the EME settings (tab “RSS”). You can use any event placeholders in there.
Thanks, Franky. I’ve gotten the full description to display, but I’m not sure how to get rid of the “Read More” at the end. Is there a formatting rule for that?
I’m using: #j #M #y – #H:#i #_EVENTDETAILS
This is what displays: http://www.thomasmemoriallibrary.org/?eme_rss=main
I should explain that we want to use our events RSS feed in a gadget on our new electronic display board, and simply want the event description to display without the link back to the individual event listing, which is not useful in this context.
I don’t see a “read more” in your feed anywhere.
Also, since you seem to be creating a gadget, can’t you just ignore the link-part? I know this is an optional element, but every RSS-interpreter can ignore the elements they want, no? I don’t like adding functionality specifically for one user, but if you defend your case, I can make it an option.
Hmmm. When I view it, it shows a Read moreā¦ at the end of each description. No need to add any additional functionality just for us–we can figure a work around if it still displays that way on our electronic display board. I just thought perhaps there was a setting or code already there that would do what I wanted. Thanks so much for your help, Franky!
Maybe it’s a caching issue that causes you to see “read more”?
Thanks, I explore that possibility!
One more question, Franky. Are all of the events formatting placeholders supposed to work for the RSS feed display? I can’t seem to get images to show up, even when my feed reader supports them.
The RSS element “item” has no image child, but I assume you’re talking about images in the description?
This should fix it:
Thanks, Franky. We’ll give it a try!
