We’d like to include PDFs, presentations, etc. along with our meeting/events. So, I created a custom field of type “file” and I’ve tried it both as a GENERIC and as an EVENT type custom field. The ‘browse’ to upload files button shows on my back-end when creating the event, and I can browse and select a file then click “update” to save the event. However, after the ‘save’, when I go back to the event, I’m left with a “browse” button again and no files seem to be saved. 🙁 Am I missing a step somewhere?
Mon 7 Jan 2019 at 12:05 #59314FrankyKeymasterAlthough custom fields per event (not talking about custom fields for the rsvp form) are now possible, some do not make much sense of course. In the case of a file, you can just as well upload it to the wordpress media galery and select it there.
But you’re correct in the fact that I don’t take file uploads totally into account here.Mon 7 Jan 2019 at 18:05 #59316AnonymousInactiveOK, thanks for the follow up.
Mon 7 Jan 2019 at 22:49 #59326FrankyKeymasterFile upload will no longer be shown as a custom field for events or locations. Since you can upload files in WP media library or when defining the event/location in the event/location notes, this is not needed.
Feel free to convince of another answer 🙂Mon 7 Jan 2019 at 23:17 #59328AnonymousInactiveWell,
My thought would be as follows, we have an admin assistant that has a *very* locked down account, so that she cannot mess with other ‘global’ wordpress items. I’ve given her access to create/edit events, but if at all possible I’d like her not to have any access to the media library where more ‘global’ entities are stored.
Likewise, as she’s creating or updating the meeting, and for others to easily find it, it would be cool if they were stored outside of the media library so that she can simply attach a file or file(s) directly to each meeting.
That said, I might be able to use a third-party file-manager plugin with another shortcode to accomplish the same task, although, that does make things a bit messy.
So, is the *need* there, kinda, but could we get away with just using the media library, very likely.
Thanks again for all the support. I’m a new user, so I’m still getting used to support and documentation on your end… perhaps once I’ve become more familiar I could help update your FAQs/examples to encourage others to give this plugin a try.
Sat 2 Feb 2019 at 03:43 #59535AnonymousInactiveHas this feature been removed? The ability to use have a user upload a file (and have it save to our database) is essential for us. Applicants have to upload a photo as part of the application process to our group. Is there any other feature that is replacing this?
Thank you,
JenniferSat 2 Feb 2019 at 10:37 #59537FrankyKeymasterNo it has not been removed, why would you say that? It is still perfectly possible to define a custom upload field that you can use in your rsvp form defnition.
Sat 2 Feb 2019 at 22:56 #59540AnonymousInactiveIt stopped working for me a few days ago. I have a custom field that’s a file type. My applicants are uploading photos to it but it’s no longer getting saved in the EME plugin under the Members area like it used. I even tested it myself several times as an applicant and it’s not working.
Sun 3 Feb 2019 at 00:00 #59541FrankyKeymasterIt would be helpful if you could send a file that no longer uploads …
Also: do try out for example if plain txt files still upload.Sun 3 Feb 2019 at 00:09 #59542AnonymousInactiveNo, it won’t take a text file either. How can I send you an example image file? Thanks!
Sun 3 Feb 2019 at 00:37 #59543FrankyKeymasterCurrent guess: custom field type = “person”, while “member” is probably what is desired. Check the person page related to the member.
Sun 3 Feb 2019 at 01:02 #59544AnonymousInactiveNo, it’s already set to Member. This worked before and nothing was changed except it stopped working after Update 2.1.0. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or there was something in that update, but nothing else changed. Thanks!
Sun 3 Feb 2019 at 09:21 #59545FrankyKeymasterFirst:
– I tried your provided file in a membership: works fine for uploading
– we’re on 2.1.3 now. Which version did work then? Between 2.0.85 and 2.1.0 there were no specific changes for file upload.
– check that no security plugin is blocking uploads
– if upload is not working in the frontend (certainly for file upload) there is a message that it failed uploading and tells the reason.
– read https://www.e-dynamics.be/wordpress/forums/topic/forum-post-guidelines/ (in your case: point 2 and 4)Sun 3 Feb 2019 at 21:02 #59550AnonymousInactiveHi Franky, Yes, I’m currently on 2.1.3 now as well. The last version that did work for this website was 2.0.85. But, again, maybe that’s a coincidence?
I double checked with my hosting company and there are no security issues or security plugins blocking the uploads.
The uploads are working from the frontend since the user isn’t receiving an error message. There is no error message displayed for me on the backend either. It’s just not there and there is nothing my security logs.
Do you have any other ideas on what could be causing this? Is there a way I can try re-installing the plug-in without losing my settings and data?
Thank you!
Sun 3 Feb 2019 at 22:07 #59551FrankyKeymasterIf the upload doesn’t seem to fail in the frontend, either something is wrong with your upload dir or something weird is going on at your side.
If you want me to help in that, I’ll need full access in order to be able to debug. Best is to create a test-setup, reproduce your problem and then give me access to that. -
